JR West Rail Pass

With the JR West Pass you can enjoy some of Japan's best sights.The JR West Rail Passes are a cost effective way to travel around the Kansai area.  The passes include the following places: Kansai Airport, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kobe, Himeji and more.  Its perfect for anyone who plans to spend some time in the Kansai region.  JR West has a few different area passes,

Kansai Area Pass - Includes Kansai Airport, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara and Himeji. The pass does not permit travel on Shinkansen (Bullet Trains), but local, rapid and new rapid trains may be used. The pass is available for 1-4 consecutive days.

Kansai Wide Area Pass – Includes Kansai Airport, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Himeji and Shiga, Tsuruga, the Nanki Area, the Okayama Area and Kinoseki-Onsen(Spa) Area. The pass permits travel on Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) between Shin-Osaka and Okayama. Local, rapid and new rapid trains may be used. The pass is available for 5 consecutive days.

Kansai – Hiroshima Area Pass – Includes Kansai Wide Area, Hiroshima and Iwakuni. This pass permits travel on Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) between Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima and JR ferry to Miyajima. The pass is available for 5 consecutive days.

Sanyo-San’in Area Pass – Includes Kansai Area, Okayama, Hiroshima, San’in(Tottori, Shimane), Yamaguchi and Hakata, This pass permits travel on Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) between Shin-Osaka and Hakata and JR ferry to Miyajima. The pass is available for 7 consecutive days.

San’in-Okayama Pass – Includes San’in area(Tottori, Shimane) and Okayama, The pass does not permit travel on Shinkansen (Bullet Trains), but Express trains(Yakuma, Super Hakuto includes between Kamigori and Chizu), local, rapid trains may be used. The pass is available for 4 consecutive days.

Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass – Includes Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Hakata and Masuda. This pass permits travel on Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) between Mihara and Hakata and JR ferry to Miyajima. The pass is available for 5 consecutive days.

Hokuriku Area Pass – Includes Hokuriku Area(Ishikawa; Kanazawa, Wakura Onsen, Fukui, Toyama). This pass permits travel on Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) between Kanazawa and Kurobe-Unazuki Onsen). The pass is available for 4 consecutive days.

Kansai – Hokuriku Area Pass – Includes Kansai Wide Area and Hokuriku area. This pass permits travel on Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) between Shin-Osaka and Okayama, Kanazawa and Joetsu Myoko and JR ferry to Miyajima. The pass is available for 7 consecutive days.

Eligibility

If you are a tourist visiting Japan from abroad for sightseeing:

You must be visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor” according to Japan Immigration Law. When you enter Japan for sightseeing, entry personnel will stamp the passport as “Temporary visitor”. Only a person who has a passport bearing this stamp can use a JAPAN RAIL PASS. Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, “Temporary visitor” status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.

If you are a Japanese national living in a foreign country:

You cannot use JR West Passes.

Note:

  • In a rare case when travellers have dual passports (Japanese & Other), unless your valid non Japanese passport is stamped with “Temporary Visitor”, issuance of JR West pass will be refused.

Validity for JR WEST PASS:

  • Within three months from the date the Exchange Order was issued, you must turn in your Exchange Order to obtain your JR WEST PASS (for example, an Exchange Order issued on 15APR would have to be turned in by 14JUL). At that time, it is necessary to specify the date that you want to start using the Pass. It can be any date within three month from the date the Exchange Order is issued.
  • Once the PASS has a starting date written on it, the date cannot be changed.

Delivery

Note:

  • Delivery to PO box is accepted.
  • Delivery and handling fee charge to be added (Courier Post NZ$15.00).
    (Please Note: You may expect some delay for Courier Post during the holiday seasons.)
  • JTB is not liable for lost or misplaced passes sent via Courier Post.

Terms and Conditions

  • Refund can only be made with the original JR Pass Exchange Order within one year of the date of issue.
  • After the pass is exchanged in Japan, the ticket is non refundable and non changeable.
  • Neither an Exchange Order nor a Japan Rail Pass can be reissued if lost or stolen.
  • 10% of the price will be charged as a refund handling fee.
  • Credit card surcharge and courier fee are non refundable.
  • Please read the general booking conditions carefully as they incorporate the basis upon which bookings are accepted by JTB New Zealand Ltd. (“JTB”)
