JR Kansai Area Rail Pass covered Kansai International Airport, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kobe and Himeji. If visitors travel within those cities, this is the only pass you needed. Please get unlimited rides on the non-reserved seats on the Kansai-Airport Express, “HARUKA”, and Rapid Service as well as local trains from Kansai Airport to each cities. From March, 2015 the area is to expand to Wakayama, Shiga, Tsuruga and Iga-Ueno!

At that time, it is necessary to specify the date that you want to start using the Pass. It can be any date within three month from the date the Exchange Order is issued.
  • Once the PASS has a starting date written on it, the date cannot be changed.

This Kansai Wide area pass covers a much bigger area than other Kansai area pass. This pass is a popular pass for foreign travellers who want to travel outside Kansai, which include Kinosaki Onsen, Shirahama, Kurashiki, and Okayama area. You can get unlimited rides on non-reserved seats on the Sanyo Shinkansen (Incl. NOZOMI and MIZUHO, between Shin-Osaka and Okayama), Limited Express trains, Rapid Service and local trains from Kansai Airport. The area is to expand to Takamatsu and Iga-Ueno for passes valid from March, 2015.

*Not valid on the Tokaido Shinkansen (not valid on the Shinkansen between the Shin-Osaka and Kyoto)

ELIGIBILITY

  • If you are a tourist visiting Japan from abroad for sightseeing:
    • You must be visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor” according to Japan Immigration Law. When you enter Japan for sightseeing, entry personnel will stamp the passport as “Temporary visitor”. Only a person who has a passport bearing this stamp can use a JAPAN RAIL PASS. Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, “Temporary visitor” status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.
  • If you are a Japanese national living in a foreign country:
    • You cannot use JR West Passes.
    • In a rare case when travellers have dual passports (Japanese & Other), unless your valid non Japanese passport is stamped with “Temporary Visitor”, issuance of JR West pass will be refused.

EXCHANGE

  • To exchange date of the pass, once the pass has been obtained, can no longer be changed.

    • Rapid Services, and Local trains on JR-WEST Conventional lines
  • The Pass is NOT valid on these trains and routes below:
    • Bullet Train “HOKURIKU SHINKANSEN” (between Kurobe-Unazukionsen and Tokyo)
    • IR Ishikawa Railway or the Ainokaze Toyama Railway
  • Special exception:
    • Limited express trains can be used on the IR Ishikawa Railway (between Kanazawa & Tsubata)
    • Pass-holder may use Himi, Johana, or Nanao lines only if pass-holder does not align from IR Ishikawa Railway (between Kanazawa & Tsubata) or the Ainokaze Toyama Railway (between Takaoka & Toyama).
    • A separate liner-fare is required when boarding the Ainokaze Liner rapid service on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway.

BOOKING

  • Within three months from the date the Exchange Order was issued, you must turn in your Exchange Order to obtain your JR WEST PASS (for example, an Exchange Order issued on 15APR would have to be turned in by 14JUL). At that time, it is necessary to specify the date that you want to start using the Pass. It can be any date within three month from the date the Exchange Order is issued.
  • Once the PASS has a starting date written on it, the date cannot be changed.
  • In order to travel in first class (Green cars) you will have to pay additional fees.
  • To access the platforms, show your pass to the JR West staff located at the platform gates.
  • To reserve a seat, ask the JR West staff at the ticket office.
  • It is a personal pass. Please always carry your passport when using the Pass as station and train staff may check it.

CANCELLATION

  • Refund can only be made with the original JR Pass Exchange Order within one year of the date of issue.
  • After the pass is exchanged in Japan, the ticket is non refundable and non changeable.
  • Neither an Exchange Order nor a Japan Rail Pass can be reissued if lost or stolen.
  • 10% of the price will be charged as a refund handling fee.
